3 a.m. on the elevated loop. 百鬼夜行 (hyakki yakō) is “the night parade of a hundred demons,” the old Japanese legend of spirits marching through the streets after dark. HYAKKI moves the parade onto a Tokyo elevated expressway under a full moon: a one-eyed umbrella spirit, a paper-lantern ghost, an oni with an iron club, a fox-masked kitsune, a long-necked rokurokubi and a few haunted household objects, drawn in an ukiyo-e style with tail-light streaks winding behind them. 百鬼夜行 runs in brush script beside the scene, with a strip reading HYAKKI YAKŌ / NIGHT PARADE · ELEVATED LOOP · 03:00 and the 無形 FORMLESS seal. On the front, a chōchin paper lantern lettered 百鬼 (“a hundred demons”) hangs on the wearer’s right chest, clear of the patch pocket. The black denim is the night.
