One headlight in the mist. 霧 (kiri) means fog and 峠 (tōge) means mountain pass, so 霧峠 is the fog pass: a cedar-lined touge at 3 a.m., swallowed by cloud, with a single car’s headlights cutting through. The back is a sumi-e ink painting turned into a one-color bone halftone, so the fog glows and the indigo denim becomes the night. 霧峠 and KIRI-TŌGE are knocked out of the mist, beside a 濃霧注意 (nōmu chūi, “caution: dense fog”) plate, the wording used on real Japanese road warnings, and the 無形 FORMLESS seal. On the front, a halftone roundel with 霧 sits on the wearer’s left chest.
