Water takes the shape of its vessel. MIZU is built on the Japanese proverb 水は方円の器に随う (mizu wa hōen no utsuwa ni shitagau): “water follows the shape of its vessel, square or round.” 水 (mizu) means “water,” 方 (hō) means “square,” 円 (en) means “round,” and 器 (utsuwa) is the vessel. The proverb usually means people are shaped by their surroundings; we read it as the idea behind 無形 (mukei, “formless”): no fixed form, so it fits any shape. On the back, a square frame holds a round window of seigaiha (青海波) waves under a striped rising sun, a giant brush-script 水 breaks out of the frame beside a MIZU wordmark, the proverb runs vertically down the side, and a 無形 seal sits in a label strip at the bottom. On the front, a brush 水 with 方円 and UNIT 02 sits on the wearer’s right chest, and a round FORMLESS · MIZU seigaiha wave crest sits on the wearer’s left chest. Printed in bone and vermilion on a coffee-brown body.
