Nothing inside. Nothing to lose. 空蝉 (utsusemi) is the empty shell a cicada leaves behind on the bark. It is also an old Japanese word for the fleeting, transient world. The back carries a suit of samurai armour kneeling in seiza in front of a red rising sun, katana across its knees, smoke curling out of a pitch-black void where the body should be. 空蝉 runs down the side in brush script over a red 無 (mu, “nothing”) stamp, finished with the FORMLESS wordmark and NOTHING INSIDE. NOTHING TO LOSE. On the front, a red 無 seal with FORMLESS and UTSUSEMI sits on the left chest.
