FŪJIN 風神

The one who lets the wind out. FŪJIN 風神 is the Japanese god of wind. He carries every gust and gale in a great bag slung over his shoulders, and the weather changes when he opens it. His partner is Raijin 雷神, the thunder god, with his ring of taiko drums. Edo-era artists painted the two as a pair: wind and thunder, always arriving together.

Our Fūjin strides toward you through gold scroll clouds, his wind bag looping up and over his head. The art is original, drawn in the Edo woodblock and Rinpa style: a sumi key line, flat fills and a verdigris-green god against ochre clouds. The big back print carries the full scene with 風神 and “FŪJIN · GOD OF WIND” below it. A small 風神 kanji with the red 無形 (“formless”) seal sits on the chest.
